Pre-Production color studies.

Three color studies for different times of day. From the top down: Dawn, Midday, and Dusk.

These were super fun to do. I did a tonal wash in black watercolor, then colored them digitally. In the final production, I want texture to be an important part of the visuals, and so I really enjoy having the watercolor effect to take some of the "digital" feel out.

Tonal scenery

This is an assignment for pro-production; we were to do a tonal drawing for the introduction, rising action, climax, and resolution each.
Personally I think the rising action and the climax (the 2nd and 3rd ones) need some work, and aren't as strong. But at least I learned some things to keep in mind for the future.

Steampunk Sly Cooper & Environment

Final version of reinvented Sly Cooper and environment.
I had a lot of trouble coloring the environment, because I wanted a metallic feel to it, but as I discovered, I couldn't really convey the right feeling with just the flats for this one.
Hence the painting was done really last minute and although I like to work in a really quick and not really refined manner, it took so much longer than I thought it would. There were a lot more details and places that needed attention that I didn't take into consideration.
As for Sly, I wish I had gotten to pay more attention to him; for one, the colors darkened way more than I thought they would on the school's print lab printer. I printed a sample from my own and it looked completely fine, but on the actual print, the colors came out horribly anyway. Blech. Proof you can never win against the print lab. It is a have-to-lose final boss battle.
With these, I am relatively happy with the way they turned out, though I would definitely like to revisit them at some point, refine and fix some problem areas.

The Clocktower

Posting again for the same project.
For right now I'm moving on to the environment aspect of the project.
I used this as the original thumbnail:

I have more sketches than this but it was getting a little out of control. I took a step back and focused on a silhouette/simplified version.

Steampunk Sly Cooper WIP

This is a WIP version of what will be the final version of my Steampunk Sly Cooper project for my Concept Art class. Obviously this is a really messy version, hahaha, it was just to see.
That is going to be his pose for the final piece. Right now I'm just playing with color. I'm limiting the palette to about three colors. Although it's steampunk, so he needs more drab colors, so I'm not sure how colorful to make him. That would probably depend a lot on tone.
I haven't paid attention to his cane in this one, and I'm not sure what his hair/eye color will be. Hmmmm....

Sketch of Mindfang during science class. I didn't have reference for her coat on hand. My friend pulled it up on her phone so I got the gist of it.
Hurr.
Have to fix some things though. Working on a slanted desk isn't effective :x
